Florida Board of Nursing Continuing Education Requirements

Total Hours Required: 24-26 | Elective Hours: 15-18 | Renewal Cycle: 2 Years
Florida RN's, LPN's and APRN's are required to complete 24 contact hours of continuing education (CE) every biennial (two year) renewal period (every third year this increased to 26 contact hours due to the requirement of an additional 2-hours of domestic violence ce).
Required courses each renewal period include:
License Renewal Dates (RN and LPN)
Registered Nurses & Advanced Practice Registered Nurses | Current RN / APRN licenses renew at different times dependent upon when you were originally licensed.
Group 1 - April 30th of even-numbered years.
Group 2 - July 31st of even-numbered years.
Group 3 - April 30th of odd-numbered years.
Licensed Practical Nurses | Current LPN licenses expire on July 31st of odd-numbered years at midnight, Eastern Standard Time.
Additional requirements for APRN's
In addition to the above requirements, APRN's must include 3 contact hours of Safe and Effective Prescribing of Controlled Substances in the 24-26 contact hours required. (Safe and Effective Prescribing of Controlled Substances course is not currently offered by MedCEC)
